Have you ever looked closely at a fiddlehead fern? Or, the nearly mathematical spacing in a seashell? How a sunflower’s seeds make up the center of such a magnificent flower? How light seems to dance on the surface of water? I have always been inspired by nature, the outdoors, flowers and amazing patterns in common, every day natural elements. I am inspired by colors – deep and vibrant, and pale and subtle. I am inspired by trees and their shape, gardens, landscape and patterns in leaves, branches, bark and butterfly wings.
I doodle flowers in notebooks – it helps me concentrate. I have cultivated hundreds of pen-drawn gardens within the pages of notebooks and want to translate them all to color on canvas. I am inspired by detail in fabric and textile designs, and interior design.
I am inspired by poetry and verse, music, books and writings – printed words, fonts, scroll and handwriting on paper. And, I am often inspired by a simple cup of coffee.
I am inspired by babies, and children – I think children are the greatest artists in the world. I am inspired by all my friends and family. I am inspired by you, and your friends and family.
I take the gifts I have received from those I love and turn them into art. The vision in my head before I begin a piece of art is rarely how it turns out when completed. As I follow the creative path of inspiration and exploration, the outcome is often surprising and unexpected. I try something new and unique in each piece of art. Come and join me on the journey – I hope my work inspires you. – Heather
